Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG)  are set to commence a nationwide strike today, Monday, March 9, 2026.

The directive, issued on 5 March and signed by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, instructs all staff within the Civil Service and Local Government Service to “stay at home until further notice”.

The notice, addressed to the Head of Civil Service, the Head of the Local Government Service, regional secretaries of CLOGSAG, and all members of the association, said the decision follows previous warnings of industrial action.

CLOGSAG is protesting what it describes as persistent delays in implementing agreed conditions of service. In June 2025, the union had issued a two-week ultimatum to the government, threatening industrial action if a negotiated salary structure was not enforced.

The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, appealed to CLOGSAG to halt the strike, saying the action “took the government by surprise” and urging members to “believe the promise” after discussions with the Finance Minister. CLOGSAG, however, said there was no concrete roadmap for resolution and remained firm on its decision.
