The Director of Nutrition at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Ms.Olivia Timpo has revealed that revealed that Ghana loses approximately 6.4% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) each year as a result of malnutrition. She further added that they are working together with the school feeding programmes were they trained caterers and educate them on the importance of adding enough protein to the meals of the school children in order to end malnutrition .

The Executive Director for Women and Change (WOMEC) Dr Charity Binka discribe the situation very worrying and has urge government to partner with nutritionist, dieticians, journalists and media personel in promoting good nutrition for societal well-being.

Dr Binka who is aslo a member of the Africa Catalyzing Action for Nutrition (AfiCAN) and Executive secretary of tge African Media and Malaria Research urged professionals from these diverse fields to join forced for positive impact on public health.

Speaking to the nedia at a training workshop on advocating for enhanced leadership and funding maternal nutrition interventions in Ghana . Dr Binka emphasized the power of media in shaping public perceptions and behaviours, especially in the realm of nutrition.

The Director of Operations for the Coalition of Actors for Public Health (CAPHA),Dr.Kasim Abdulai also hinted malnutrition remains a silent crisis in Ghana, affecting children, pregnant women, and even working-age adults.

The economic toll of malnutrition is not only measured in health outcomes but also in lost productivity, increased healthcare costs, and reduced educational performance.

According to him, the impact extends beyond the individual level and affects national development highlighted the need for a multi-sectoral approach involving health, education, and to combat malnutrition effectively.
