The government has declared three days of national mourning beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025, following the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday that claimed the lives of eight individuals.
President John Dramani Mahama has, as a result of the fatal accident, suspended all his scheduled activities and programmes for the rest of the week.
These were contained in a press statement issued by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The Chief of Staff, who had earlier in the day formally announced the tragic incident at a press briefing at the Presidency, directed that all national flags fly at half-mast across the country until further notice, as a mark of respect for the victims.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have announced that all the mortal remains of the 8 victims who perished in the helicopter crash near Sikaman, in the Ashanti Region, have been recovered and airlifted to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
In a statement released to the media, the Ghana Armed Forces thanked the people of Sikaman for their support and efforts in retrieving the deceased persons following a coordinated search operation at the crash site in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The recovery effort was led by the military, the police, national security operatives and emergency responders.
Meanwhile, another statement issued by the Government Spokesman indicated that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Julius Debrah and other high-ranking officials have led delegations comprising senior government officials, national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Military High Command to formally inform the families of the eight individuals who perished in the helicopter crash.
