Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has disclosed that the government is preparing to present a bill to Parliament to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.
He noted that the proposal is among the bills and regulations scheduled to be presented to the House during the current meeting. Mr Ayariga further stated that the Minister for Transport will table the bill for parliamentary approval of the proposed change.
Under parliamentary procedure, any change to the name of a state facility must receive parliamentary approval before taking legal effect.
Kotoka International Airport is Ghana’s principal international airport, serving as the primary gateway for passenger travel, cargo operations and diplomatic movements. A proposed change in name would necessitate amendments to official state records and aviation documentation.
However, Mr Ayariga did not specify when the bill would be formally introduced, stating only that it is part of the Transport Ministry’s legislative agenda for the current session, which commenced today.
