Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, a presidential hopeful and stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), held a high-level engagement with 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at his private office in Accra today.

In what he described as an “honour and a necessary conversation,” Mr. Agyapong emphasized the urgent need to rebuild the NPP from the ground up, anchored on unity, fairness, and respect for grassroots leadership.

The former MMDCEs, who once served as the backbone of local governance, were applauded for their dedication and sacrifice to the nation. Mr. Agyapong did not mince words about the challenges they faced under the previous administration.

“Excessive centralization in Accra stripped you of real power, undermined your mandate, and stalled critical development in your communities. That must change,” he stated.

The outspoken politician reaffirmed his decision to contest in the upcoming NPP primaries and promised a bold shift in leadership that returns power to the people.

“Under my leadership, local governance will no longer be an afterthought. We will restore dignity to public service and ensure that development is driven by the people closest to the issues,” he assured.

The meeting marks a pivotal moment in Mr. Agyapong’s campaign, signaling his commitment to a decentralized, people-first governance model.

He concluded with a rallying call to the former MMDCEs:

“Together, we will rebuild. Together, we will rise.”
