The Ashanti Mampong Traditional Council led by the Mamponghene, Daasebre osei Bonsu II, has given the leadership of the National Democratic Congress in the Manpong Constituency less than 24 hours to retract their anti-Ashanti comments made by some youth of the party.

Speaking to the NDC leadership of the constituency at his palace, the Mamponghene condemned the actions of the party supporters who have waged an open campaign against the possible nomination of an Ashanti for the Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.

Daasebre osei Bonsu II, who is the occupant of the silver stool of the Asante Kingdom, advise the NDC supporters to refrain from those despicable behaviors and gave them until the next 48 hours to apologize or face the wrath.

He acknowledged the tolerant and welcoming nature of Ashantis to diversity, stating that Ashanti remains the only area in Ghana where other tribes are allowed to install their own chiefs.

According to the chief, political parties do not belong to individuals but for all Ghanaians. He emphasized that he holds mutual respect for both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and expects the same level of maturity and leadership from all party officials and supporters.

In a related development, concerned youth group of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Okaikwei North Constituency has vowed to be apathetic towards the party should their preferred candidate, Abdul-Rashid Issah be denied the Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive position.

The group, during a media briefing in Accra, accused the governing NDC of continued neglect despite its contribution to the party’s political fortunes.

To the NDC supporters in the constituency they prefer Abudul Raseed Issah who has been with the grassroot through tick and thing.
