The Minister for Tourism,Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Awal has ordered the newly inaugurated National film Authority board to as a member of urgency produce 200 locally produced movies which according to him will generate 40,000 jobs annually.

Speaking at the swearing-in of the members of the National film Authority board,Dr. Awal stated that producing 200 Ghanaian movies should generate a whopping five billion dollars($5 billion) to the nation, hence tasked the board to come out with a master plan which gives clear road maps and strategies to make this a reality.

The minister assured members of the board that his administration will work hard with the sector to make Ghana’s firm industry competitive and profitable.

“I am aware that the Ghanaian film industry has many fine, talented players along the value chain and government will continue to initiate policies and programs to help make the Ghanaian film sector competitive and viable. The National Film Authority will lead the charge in introducing business development modules into film making, production and distribution in order to help create a vibrant market for local film production” Dr Mohammed Awal stated.
He however congratulated the board and urged them to justify the inclusion.

On his part, the Chairman of the Board, David Dontoh accepted the challenge and said that with the help of experienced industry persons, they will achieve this goal and make the film industry a formidable one.

The governing board of the national film Authority is represented by Mr. David Dontoh as the chairperson, Madam Juliet Asantewa Madam Yaa Attafua, Dr Ramatu Dadzie, Mr. Samuel Fiscian,Mr Zakaria Abdulai,Mr. Koffi Mathew Narte Nartey, Madam Akofa Edjeani,Mr Kofi Ohemeng Owusu, Madam Rukiyatu Ankrah,Mr Samuel Gynadoh, and Mr Ernest Boateng.
