The Rt Hon Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has directed the Defence and Interior committee to take immediate steps to visit the IGP, the Regional Police command and the Islamic SHS for preliminary evidence and report back to Parliament next week Tuesday.

Speaker’s directives came up today, when the MP for Asawase and Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed made a statement on the floor of Parliament, speaking against actions taken by the police yesterday by using live ammunition and teargas on the students as they tried to register their challenges posed by reckless drivers that ply the road in front of the school.

Mr. Muntaka called on Parliament to conduct an investigation into the matter, despite the fact that, the IGP has ordered an investigation into issues.

But the majority chief whip and MP for Nsawam Addoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh also shared a different view with Mr. Muntaka’s call for an investigation into the matter.

Mr Annor Dompreh said, there is no need immediately for Parliament to conduct an investigation but should hold till the police had finished with theirs, then Parliament can then go into the matter if something went wrong in the police investigation for a proper thing to be done by Parliament.
