Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay clinched the best female artiste, Western Africa Award at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 11, 2026.

The five-day event blended business summits with an awards night that marked the highlight of the celebration.

Wendy Shay emerged victorious after edging out strong competition from Tiwa Savage, Moliy, Ayra Starr, Amaarae, Josey, and several others.

In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude, saying: “I want to thank my Lord and Saviour, my fans, the Shay Gang, my partners, and my baby, Tracy Shay, for dancing to Too Late. It went viral because of her.”

Wendy Shay’s song Too Late gained widespread attention in 2025, following a viral dance performance by schoolchild Tracy Gyasi, popularly known as Tracy Shay, at a school event.

The musician has been widely tipped by music consumers as one of the Ghanaian artistes who delivered standout performances during the year under review.

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) is an annual event that recognises and celebrates musical works, talent, and creativity across the African continent, while promoting African cultural heritage. The inaugural awards ceremony was held in 2014.

AFRIMA was established by its International Committee in collaboration with the African Union (AU).
