The planned reopening of the Ghana Airport as announced by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his 16th address on covid19 containment measures, is underway as health officials and authorities of the Ghana Airport Company have expressed readiness towards the resumption day.
The Kotoka International Airport was shut down about 5 months ago after the country recorded its first cases through passengers who travelled into the country back in March.
Speaking to the media during a press conference at the Kotoka International Airport, a Deputy Health Minister, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye noted that, the government has adopted two systems of testing for passengers on arrival which will help identify those with or without the virus, all within maximum of 30 minutes.
He added that, these systems makes the government confident to reopen the airport to help curb the virus from entering into the country.
The Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), Yaw Kwakwa also expressed his organization’s readiness ahead of the planned reopening of the airport as he gave a break down of what passengers are expected to do with limited number of people allowed into the halls.
Also, the Minister for Aviation, Kofi Adda added that, the ministry is committed to ensuring that, the airport is safe to help the reopening process as he says it will help boost the country’s economy.
