President Akufo-Addo has commenced processes to airlift 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines donated to the country by the German Government.

The donation is part of a pledge made by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel to make up to 70 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine available to African countries this year to help the Continent’s bid to vaccinate its 1.3 billion population during the President’s just-ended visit to Germany.

Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin who announced this at the Jubilee House said the United States Government has also donated 1.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccines to Ghana.

This is a major boost to the government’s agenda of vaccinating about 20 million of the adult population.

”The German Chancellor, am happy to say that had first made a pledge of 1.2 million vaccines to Ghana. I have been informed, however, that this has increased from 1.2 million to 1.5 million. The President has already begun processes of dispatching a plane to Germany to take delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccines,” the Presidential Communications Director disclosed.
