A total of 106,857 candidates are currently sitting for their Basic Education Examination Certificate (BECE) in the Ashanti region, representing 2.3 % increase over the 2019 tally of 104,461, data from the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has revealed.


The Ghana Education Service has also deployed 351 assistant supervisors and 3,554 invigilators in the region with 423 supervisors, manning the final exams in the region.


Whilst 54,025 candidates are males, 52,832 are females. Nationally, 531,705 candidates are sitting, with 262,286 and 262,286, representing males and females accordingly.


There has been an increase of 2,396 candidates, representing 2.3% over the 2019 figure of 104,461.


In a visit to some selected areas examination centres in the region, Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, who led the entourage, implored the candidates to eschew fear and sit for the exams confidently.


The entourage, were made of Mr. Michael Nsowah , the Chairman of GES Council, and Mrs. Mary Owusu-Achiaw, the Ashanti Regional Education Director.

The visit was to afford the stakeholders first-hand information about the exams, where some they observed very few challenges which were rectified.


Amongst some of centers the team visited was the Nkawie Senior High School Examination Centre and Toase Senior High School, all in the Atwima Nwabiagya South in the Ashanti. They later went Yaa Asanteman Senior High School in the Kwadaso Municipality.


At one of the centers, Osei-Mensah, urged the students to eschew fear and be confident, stressing that they should answer their favorite questions first.


He expressed appreciation about the strict adherence of Covid-19 protocols in the visited centres.


Osei-Mensah urged the students to give off their best to pass their examination.


On his part, the Council Chairman of GES, Mr. Michael Nsowah, expressed satisfaction with examination.

He advised the candidates to be confident and take the exams seriously, since government has put in place measures for their smooth entry into Senior High School.
