The Head Pastor of the Methodist Church at Kukuom, capital of the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo region, has called on Ghanaians to embrace persons of different faiths in order to accelerate the development of the nation.
According to Most Rev John Peprah, who is also Chairman of the Association of Churches in Kukuom, differences in faith should rather serve to unite the nation in an atmosphere of brotherly love and care, not as a source of conflict.
Most Rev Peprah made the call when he and other members of the Association of Churches joined the Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at the Kukuom Central Mosque on Sunday, 26th May 2019.
Vice President Bawumia is in the Ahafo region as part of his nationwide Ramadan tour, which has already taken him to the Oti, Volta, Eastern, Central, Western, Western North, Ashanti and Upper East Regions.
Using himself as an example, Most Rev Peprah indicated that although he has many Muslim friends, he has never entered a mosque before, and commended Vice President Bawumia for embarking on a tour to promote religious acceptance, which has allowed him to enter a mosque.
“Today is the first time I’m entering a mosque, and I’m glad that it is because of the presence of H.E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who has brought about this historic development.
“Every nation is developed by unity, commonness of purpose and brotherly love. What we are all praying for is that the peace, unity and brotherliness we are currently enjoying as a nation should continue for ever.
“Our religious differences should not divide us. We all have our different beliefs. These differences should rather bring us together to develop and advance the nation. For us as leaders of the church, our prayer is that God, who chose to make you the leaders of this nation at this time, will help you to deliver on the assignment he has given you for this nation.
Rev Peprah asked for God’s guidance and help for the Vice President as he continues the Ramadan tour, saying “May God be with you and protect you in everything you do and everywhere you go. May your activities bring greater glory to Him.”
