Leadership of both side of the house is briefing members of the Parliamentary Press Corps on the University of Ghana, Department of Political Science on their recent research on the performance of Members of Parliament.
Speaking at the engagement, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah and MP for Suame indicated that, if anyone want to access Parliament it should be on the sole responsibilities of MPs in the chamber and not speaking to constituents.
He said any research must be focus on how effective MPs in scrutinizing government business and crafting of laws.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, revealed that if it comes to the real business of the house out of Two Hundred and Seventy- Members (275) only few take part and he said these are the yardstick for anyone who want to do any research on Parliament.
Moreover, Osei Kyei Mensah,said the report should not be entirely rubbish but urged for improvement for coming years.
Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, said the UG report exhibited misunderstanding and misconception on the roles of MPs.
He said what he was taught at the same department and by the same lectures was legislation, deliberation and oversight.
He ended by calling on all institutions to come on board to agree on a common framework to work with and also said they are prepared to meet every institution in crafting such a common framework for future use.
