President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo says covid 19 had a devastating effect on the global economy and ghana was no exception although the government ensured that Ghanaians are cautioned against the harsh effects of the economic recession.

He said this as he opened the 73red Annual New Year School and Conference on the theme: Covid-19 and Socioeconomic Dynamics in Ghana.

Speaking at the opening of the conference the president noted that Ghana needs to boost its activities towards the fight against Covid 19.

He said the facts remains that among all the death of Covid 19 Ghana has recorded the lowest death rate of Covid 19 in the world.

He further noted some drastic negative effects of the Covid-19 which includes a negative growth of -0.3% in ECOWAS, reduction of revenue in the tourism sector and many others.

He added that 114 million jobs were lost in the world but in Ghana there were no lay-offs from government institutions.

The economy grew for 5.14 % as a result of government interventions such as the obatampa projects and others.
