As part of improving clean food in the Basic Schools in the country, Clean Cooking Alliance is currently embarking on a School Kitchen Improvement Project in ten selected schools across the country.

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama indicated the new improved formula will help women to cook without any health implications. It is also time saving and economical as compared to cooking with firewood, she added.

The Minister said the project is being partnered by the Ministry, Ghana Education Service and School Feeding Program with sponsorship from the Clean Cooking Alliance, MMDCES and among other Ministries.

Hajia Alima said Clean Cooking Alliance is currently funding the pilot program in ten selected schools across the country. She called on all schools, homes and hospitals to adopt the technology.

In an interview the Country Manager for Clean Cooking Alliance Kwesi Sarpong, revealed that over the years people who use firewood and charcoal in cooking had effect on their health.

According to him, over seventeen thousand people die globally for using charcoal and firewood for cooking every year because of the smoke.

Kwesi Sarpong said they will continue to monitor the progress of the project and scale it throughout all the schools in the country.

The Integrated School Kitchen Improvement Project was launched in Sakyi Agyakwa Cluster of Schools, Nsawam in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
