The Okyeman Youth Association, will on the 30th of July this year, play host to state institutions, civil society organizations, corporate bodies and embassies at a program to be held at Kyebi the traditional capital of the Akyem Abuakwa Kingdom.
The program dubbed “The Atewa Consensus- dialoguing for maximum impact” is aimed at considering government’s plan to have the rich forest of Atewa mined for bauxite through a comprehensive plan that would safeguard bio-diversity, our water resources and certain animal species within the forest.
The youth association also intend to bring on board civil society organizations opposing the planned mining of the forest for bauxite, to clearly espouse their fears and anxieties for government to address those concerns and provide the assurances needed.
In an interview,President of the Group Archibald Gyasi assured participants of the consultative forum of a view sharing platform where serious issues will be addressed going forward. He also promised an exhibition of genuine Akyem cultures such as a display of the rich Kete dance as a way of welcoming Ghana to Kyebi the hub of Akyem culture and tradition.
He further stated that the forum is intended to build consensus and to end any form of unnecessary agitations that may be expected to greet the development of the area through the various developmental models that may eventually be made known at the forum.
