The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, yesterday launched a Five-Year Strategic and Implementation Plan at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The plan is geared towards the development of a competitive and sustainable tree crops industry in Ghana and beyond.

The launch of the Five-Year Strategy and Implementation Plan (2022-2027) will serve as a major step towards the establishment of an investment framework to guide the mobilization of both public and private investments for the development of a competitive and sustainable tree crops industry in Ghana.

The Authority has a mandate to regulate and create a conducive environment for the development of tree and industrial crops such as cashew, oil palm, rubber, shea, coconut and mango.

 

The CEO of (TCDA) Hon. William Agyapong Quaitoo in his open remarks underpinned four broad strategic focus areas which form the strategic plan.
1. Support for Adaptive Research is very key for implementation.
2. Production and Value Chain Support.
3. Capacity -Building Support to value chain actors

  1. Licensing and Regulations

Mr Quaitoo on behalf of the Board and Staff expresses gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and the Government of Ghana for subvention support of 5 million US Dollars for a period of two years to the Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA).

The CEO further thank The World bank Groups International Finance Corporation and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs(SECO) for providing technical assistance and funding for the Development of this strategic and implementation plan( 2022-2027).

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who was the Special Guest of Honour reiterate the commitment of the Nana Addo-led Administration to championing the agenda of Ghana becoming self-sufficient in Agriculture to help earn multiple sources of foreign exchange and do away with the over dependency on Cocoa as the major earner of foreign exchange for the country.

Hence the need for the introduction of the Planting for Export and Rural Development under the umbrella of Planting for Food and Jobs which eventually gave birth to the Tree Crop Development Authority mandated to spearhead the drive for this Noble but giant step taken by the Government.

Hon Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto duly launched the Five Years Strategic Development Plan for the Authority.
