The Akyempemhene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Barimah Kwame Antwi Bosiako, has cautioned the youth, especially students, to refrain from using violence as a means of seeking redress.
He said these anti-social behaviours are a threat to the peace and stability of the country and its peace-loving citizens.
Barimah Kwame Antwi Boasiako made these statements on the sidelines after he had donated 500 boxes of library books and other teaching and learning materials to 10 primary schools at Kyebi, in the Abuakwa South municipality of the Eastern Region.
The gesture which was the highlight of the first-year commemoration of his coronation is to help resource school libraries in the area and ensure that there was at least a functioning library, to boost literacy and improve the reading habits of pupils and students in the municipality.
The 10 beneficiary primary Schools included the Kibi M/A Experimental, Kibi Anglican, Kibi Presbyterian College of Education Demonstration, Kibi School for the Deaf, Kibi State M/A, Wesley Methodist School, Ebenezer Habitat Presby, and Pano Presby Basic school among others.
Each School received 50 boxes of the learning resources.
The Akyempemhene of Okyeman was accompanied by some chiefs and elders, including the Okyeman Sompahene, Akwansre-hene, Okyeman Okyeame, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly among others to do the presentations.
He interacted with the pupils and encouraged them to take their studies seriously since the sky is the limit for them.
Speaking to NET2TV NEWS, Barimah Kwame Antwi Bosiako, opined that as Govt, Non-government Organizations (NGOs), and philanthropists, are doing their best to support schools, to make learning conducive for students, it is inappropriate when students use violence as a means to get their demands addressed.
He noted that violence among students is a serious peace and national security threat and recommended that more education and sensitization as well as punitive measures must be instituted to curb this menace.
He, therefore, appealed to institutions, organizations and individuals to support the efforts to enable them to complement foreign stories and textbooks with local ones.
On his part, the Head of Supervision and Monitoring of the School for Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly’s Education Directorate, Emmanuel Amoh also in an interview said, reading plays a vital role in the development of individuals, thus, the books received would help improve the reading skills of the children.
He commended the Okyeman Akyempimhene, who single-handedly presented the 500 boxes of library books, describing it as a remarkable investment.
He said the example set by the Okyeman Akyempemhene, was worth emulating by all to ensure that pupils, students and, others within the catchment area had access to a library.
