Egypt twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Ghana in group B of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.

Ghana coach Chris Hughton handed a starting berth to Mohammed Kudus and grabbed it in both hands by scoring a brace in either half.  Mohammed Kudus drilled home from the edge of the box to put Ghana ahead in first-half stoppage time, seconds after Egypt star Mohamed Salah was forced off through injury.

Egypt, 7-times champions of the competition drew level through Omar Marmoush inside 69 minutes but Kudus quickly restored Ghana’s lead in the 71st minute.

Three minutes later, Mostafa Mohamed took advantage of a defensive error to smash home the second goal for the Pharoahs of Egypt.

Chris Hughton’s men played a well drilled game but were let down by some avoidable individual errors. Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori, twice rescued Ghana from conceded the third goal as he made two brilliant saves to keep Ghana in the game.

Both teams had chances came at either end – but there was nothing to pick as the game ended 2-2 in Abidjan. Ghana will go into the final game with loads of confidence following their lofty display on Thursday.

The Black Stars will face Mozambique in their last group game at Stade Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe on Monday, January 22, 2024.
