Renowned motivational speaker Dr Lorna Owens has made her first appearance in Ghana’s finest private university, Wisconsin International University to encourage students to take advantage of many opportunities around to make a difference in the society especially in the world of social media where they can promote and sell their ideas of business globally.
Dr Lorna Owens, who is the founder and leader of Footprints Foundation, made this revelation during the seminar with Wisconsin students at the Block C on the main campus on Friday, September 20, 2024.
The Seminar with Dr Lorna Owens brought together stakeholders, including entrepreneurs and students to educate them on how to strategies and put their businesses on the map.
It was held on the theme, “The Power of One; learn to position yourself and your business globally”.
Dr Lorna Owens advised those who want to do business to stay focused, plan and put in strategies in place to push their businesses forward.
“One person can change the world. You as an individual are a business, so what you have to do is to utilise the power of social media, it does not cost anything, we are all on the web. Make sure you have a website, make sure you use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, whatever you are good at, but when I look at it, it should point to your business,’ she said.
Dr Lorna who is also a Registered Nurse and a Midwife continued that,” It should not be a scattered picture. I should be able to get your whole business story by looking at your social media handle.”
She again said,”The other thing is to be focused and also, do not believe that you have to get a lot of money to start a global business, by setting yourself on social media, you become an expert and the world will find you. So there is a perfect way to start a business globally when you have no money.”
She said she decided to educate students because they are the future.
“I believe the younger generation are certainly bolder than we are, they are very innovative and I think they will get it. They are already on these platforms so we just have to make sure that they respect the platform and utilise the platform for good and also to build whatever they want to build in business. Anything is possible but you just have to be wise and use social media to the advantage,” she added.
For his part, the President of the Wisconsin International University, Prof Obeng Mireku commended Dr Lorna Owens for such a session, saying it will really help the students.
He also seconded the fact that people must utilise social media to grow their
