The Chief Executive Officer of the Public Sector Reforms Secretariat, Thomas Kusi-Boafo has called on the Ghanaians to be wary of power-drunk politicians who in their quest for political power, sow seeds of discontent and engineer social unrest.
The CEO of the Public Sector Reforms Secretariat further said, the EC must be allowed to continue its engagement with the public in its bid to compile a new voters register for the upcoming December 7 general elections to be held across the country.
Thomas Kusi Boafo made these assertions in an interview with NET2 News on Monday. He was adding his voice to the public debate that has been generated after the EC made its intention known on the possibility of compiling a new voters register.
He opined that the electoral commission is an independent body that has the constitutional mandate to undertake its duties.
He enumerated the rationale behind EC’s proposals for a new register.
Reminding Ghanaians about the expensive nature of democracy, Thomas Kusi Boafo said this electoral process is all we have to continue deepening our cherished democracy.
On the suggestion that the National Identification Authority merge the voter’s ID card and the Ghana card, the CEO of the Public Sector Reforms Commission was of the opinion that, the NIA as it currently stands is not ready for that process.
He further urged the EC to continue soliciting advice from the general public and stakeholders to come up with a workable and improved process.
He decried the comments by Elvis Afriyie Ankrah on making the system unworkable and wondered what the old register meant for the NDC to keep it in use.
