Some concerned traders at Kantamanto, Tudu, CMB, UTC, Makola and Okaishie have stated that they will resist any attempt by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, and any party,or organization that intends to prevent traders from partaking in the registration exercise as it happened in 2012 at the Odododiodoo constituency.
According to Association, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo in 2012 did everything possible to prevent most traders with Akan names from registration to vote.
Explaining this at a press briefing,a member of the traders association,Mr Amin Arafat explained that traders within Kantamanto, Makola, Okaishie,Tudu and it environs which falls within Odododiodoo are ready and willing to register should the EC begins the exercise, but will resist any attempt to disenfranchise them.
They are therefore calling for full security from the inspector General of Police and other relevant organizations to beef up security within Odododiodoo as registration approaches.
The Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision ruled that the Electoral Commission has the power to compile a new register.
The court in its decision held that the EC is an independent body and will only be directed by the court if it acts contrary to law.
