The special registration exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission for students who who have attained the age of 18 and eligible to vote, has come to an end at over 700 Senior High Schools in Ghana.
To give equal opportunity to eligible final year students in the second cycle institutions in the country, the Electoral commission gave two days to be used to register all the eligible students in their various schools to help them exercise their Constitutional rights.
The special exercise which formed part of the nationwide compilation of a new register was announced at an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held between the EC and IPAC last Thursday.
As part of the extended exercise, mobile registration officers from the EC were deployed to about 700 SHS campuses after the Ghana Education Service (GES) had written to the Commission.
The SHS students returned to school on June 22, as part of the partial reopening of school after several weeks of closure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
At the end of the two day exercise, Net2 Tv visited some of the second cycle institutions in the Ashanti Region to assess the registration exercise.
Some of the schools visited included the Juabeng SHS, Kumasi Academy, Effiduase SHS, SIMMs SHS among others.
At the Effiduase Asokore constituency Net2 tv spoke to Akwasi Agyapong the Constituency youth organizer of the NPP who was also monitoring the exercise in the constituency.
