Cleveland Cavaliers big man Andre Drummond left a big tip for a waitress at a Florida restaurant on Sunday.
Kassandra Diaz, a server at Che Restaurant in Delray Beach, said she didn’t know who the customer was until she saw that he had left a $1,000 tip on a $164 check.
“When I was given the checkbook, I went to put in the tip & information to close the table and I couldn’t believe it,” Diaz wrote alongside a picture of the receipt she posted on Instagram.
“From a $160 check, the tip read $1,000. I was shaking and had tears of happiness after what he left me.”
Drummond, who is making more than $27 million this season, replied, “Thank you for being amazing!” and also thanked the restaurant for its hospitality.
Restaurants in Palm Beach County reopened two weeks ago at 25% capacity, and Diaz said the restaurant had been “pretty slow” over the past week.
“I had no idea how to react, I didn’t want to draw attention but at the same time I couldn’t describe the amount of appreciation I had/have,” Diaz wrote. “It’s so amazing to see people displaying acts of kindness in these uncertain times. This is a story I will never forget, thank you again so much @andredrummondd!!”
Che’s general manager, Daniela Sujoy, told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Diaz would be able to keep the entire tip.
Drummond’s act of kindness is the second large gratuity at a Florida restaurant to garner attention this month, after former NFL star Chad Johnson left a $1,000 tip on a $37 tab last week.
