As Ghana prepares to go to the polls on December 7, the Ashesi University as part of its corporate social responsibility has engaged queen mothers to help educate the public on the Electoral process. Aside from ensuring voters do not loiter around the voting area, the electorates are also not to visit the polling stations in party colours. The queen mothers were charged to engage their people in ensuring a peaceful process and holding the ballot paper such that the indelible ink does not spoil the ballot paper. After various group discussions, the queen mothers identified the need to disabuse the minds of the youth from chasing quick money, making them vulnerable to the acts of some politicians, especially during such electioneering times.

Speaking with the media, a Senior Lecturer at the Ashesi University, Dr. Enyonam Kudonoo said recognizing the pivotal role of women in building society, the school for the past years commenced the sensitization programme to urge women on.

She noted that this is not the time for Ghanaians to sell their conscience and vice wisely to enhance the country’s.

The Greater Accra Regional Organiser for the Queenmothers Association and Queenmother for Sempe Newton, Naa Ablade, said in as much as elections are vital for effective democracy, everyone must get involved and ensure the right processes are taken for success.

Some Queen mothers who also spoke urged politicians to be truthful as they go about their campaigns. They also asked them to place Ghana above every parochial interest.

The queen are also trained in mediation and other issues of society to better transform their communities and Ghana a whole.
