The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, has announced the imminent prosecution of some former public officials in the previous government in the coming months.
Top among them is the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, who has been arrested in connection with an alleged financial scandal involving a $7 million cyber defence system contract.
Dr Dominic Ayine, also confirmed that prosecutions in the National Service and Sky Train allegations will commence by mid-April.
The A-G made these revelations at a press briefing on Monday to among other issues, update the public on the government’s “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) initiative.
The Attorney-General explained that in the case of Mr Kwabena Adu Boahene, the cyber defence contract was intended to strengthen Ghana’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats, data breaches, and digital espionage. However, the funds allocated for the project were allegedly mismanaged.
On the National Service Authority (NSA) ghost names allegations, Dr Ayine disclosed that eight suspects had been interrogated, with many providing crucial information to aid the investigations.
The AG also shared details on the botched Skytrain project.
With prosecutions set to begin in April, the Attorney-General assured Ghanaians that justice would be served, and public funds recovered from individuals implicated in the scandals.
