This year’s International Day of the Girl Child has been commemorated with a call for young ladies and girls to aim to reach the high goals in life and not to be daunted by the challenges that will come their way.
The call was made by Jennifer Dede Afagbadzi, the Municipal Chief Executive for the La-Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly on Tuesday.
The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated on 11th October each year to empower girls and promote gender equality to accelerate sustainable development and bring an end to all forms of discrimination against girls and women.
This year’s celebration was held on the theme “Our time is now—our rights, our future”
Given this, the management of La Nkwatanang Madina Municipal Education Directorate in collaboration with the Girl Education Unit celebrated this year’s event at the West Africa Senior High School.
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive for La Nkwatanang Madina, Hon. Jennifer Dede Afagbadzi advised the young girls to be focused on life and not be carried away with any form of relationship they find themselves in.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Kean Adjei Appiah advised parents to support their girl child to be what they want to be.
The Municipal Girl Child Coordinator, Madam Adjoa Akyenba also advised parents to provide for the necessary needs of the children.
