Upon coming to government the NPP government proposed for election of MMDCES and through that much work has been done to make way for the proposal.

The Minister for Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Gloria Akufo laid a bill in parliament to amend article 243 of the Constitution which provides appointment of MMDCES by the president prior to approval by the assembly members by voting.

Currently, the Ministry for Attorney General and Minister for Justice has made a statement on the floor of Parliament for the second reading to make way for the passage of the Constitution amendment bill.

During the debate the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Osei Bonsu Amoah said the amendment is very important to support such good initiative by the president for election of MMDCES.
