Diego Carlos, a Brazilian center-back, has agreed to join Aston Villa for £26 million from Sevilla.
Newcastle United attempted to recruit the 29-year-old in January, and he will go to England on Thursday for a physical and to finalize personal terms.
He would be Villa’s second summer signing, after the free transfer acquisition of Boubacar Kamara from Marseille.
Carlos was a part of Brazil’s gold-medal winning team in the Tokyo Olympics last year when he played six times.
“Sevilla FC would like to thank the player for his efforts over the years in Seville and wishes him the best of success in his new endeavor,” the La Liga club said in a statement.
Steven Gerrard, the manager of Aston Villa, has stated that central defender Ezri Konsa would miss the start of the new season due to a knee injury.
Villa, who finished 14th in the Premier League last season, also signed Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona on a four-year contract earlier this month.
