Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the newly announced Vice-Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a statement clarifying remarks he made in Kumasi on July 9, 2024, concerning President Akufo-Addo’s performance.

In his statement, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that his comments were intended to reflect his personal opinion on President Akufo-Addo’s impact relative to other past presidents and were not meant to denigrate any former heads of state.

He explicitly mentioned that he holds great respect for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, as well as other former presidents, including his own grand uncle and mentor, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh acknowledged the varied reactions elicited by his earlier statement and sincerely apologized for any discomfort caused.

He reiterated his respect for all former presidents and their contributions to the nation.
