The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed the parliamentary results for four constituencies—Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central—citing violations of the Electoral Code of Conduct (CI 127). Deputy EC Chairperson for Operations, Mr. Samuel Tettey, announced last Friday that the results were invalid due to interference by party supporters who disrupted collation centers and pressured EC staff into declaring results.
The disruption in these constituencies led to forced declarations of winners, which violated the laid-down processes of CI 127. Despite police presence, the re-collation processes in these constituencies failed to follow the required procedures, which led the EC to deem the declarations as illegal and unsubstantiated.
The affected constituencies include:
- Dome-Kwabenya: Elikplim Akurugu (NDC) was initially declared the winner, but the NPP candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr, contested the results due to disruptions during collation.
- Okaikwei Central: NDC’s Baba Sadiq was declared the winner, but the collation process was moved to the regional center after violence and misunderstandings disrupted the local process.
- Tema Central: Allegations arose over an illegal declaration in favor of the NDC candidate, and the results were contested.
- Ablekuma North: NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn won, but the process was marred by attacks on EC officers and claims of irregularities.
The EC has underscored its commitment to upholding electoral integrity and ensuring compliance with the prescribed procedures in CI 127, emphasizing that the outcomes from these constituencies cannot be upheld. Re-collation efforts are ongoing in several other constituencies, with progress in Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North, while re-collation in others remains pending.
