The General Secretary for Industrial and Commercial Union (ICU) Mr. Solomon Kotei has sounded caution to every employee or workers in the country to be checking their Social Security and National Trust (SSNIT) contributions regularly.
Mr. Kotei said, majority of Employers deliberately fail to pay exactly what the law urges them to pay but will be paying less, instead of the mandatory 13.5% on the employees salary and 5% from the Employer to SSNIT every month, and what makes the situation sad is that, some employers does not pay anything at all to SSNIT on behalf of it’s employees.
He encouraged every Ghanaian worker to take the issue of SSNIT contributions very serious and be checking from the offices of SSNIT, between every three to four months in making sure their contributions are being paid and its paid at exactly 13.5% and 5% respectively, to secure their future, towards retirement.
In an interview with the General Secretary of ICU, revealed that, the Organize Labour used 2019 May day anniversary to educate and also warned every worker, especially those who contribute to SSNIT, to be vigilant in making sure, the right deductions are done from their salaries and same is paid to SSNIT on their behalf.
