The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Afriyie Akoto has expressed satisfaction in Eastern Regional farmers’ total participation in the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) flagship program.

According to the minister, the participation has helped widely in improving the country’s food basket as he says the government is looking to improve the level of participation in the region and the country as a whole.

The minister these remarks during his raping up of his 5 Days Working tour of 5 regions of the country which includes the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Ashanti, and the Eastern Region to inspect the progress of work made in the government’s various flagship programs and also interact with farmers on challenges they are facing.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto stressed that the tour of the regions has been very vital as he says he is impressed with work that has been done by the farmers across the regions to producing more food for the country.

He also commended the Nsawam Maximum prisons for the farms they have as he says government will keep supporting farmers across the country to excel.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto also revealed that Ghana has passed the level of food self-sufficiency and other countries have even been depending on the country for food as he says the country now looks on improving on the marketing aspect of the farm produce.
