The Ghana Police Service has arrested Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako over their son’s fatal accident which resulted in the death of two 12-year-old girls at East Legon on October 12, 2024 and had several others injured.
The accident occurred around 6pm last Saturday when their 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako drove his parent’s Jaguar SUV into a 4×4 Acura, resulting in a fire that burnt both vehicles beyond recognition.
The 4×4 Acura vehicle with registration number GR 2542 – 23, was being driven by Joseph Ackah with four other occupants, at Mensah Wood Street at East Legon.
Three of the five victims in the Acura vehicle during the accident were rescued, and the other two identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both 12 years of age, lost their lives.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement, confirmed the arrest of Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife following the accident.
The statement said two of the rescued victims who sustained minor injuries were treated and discharged, while the third is still on admission receiving medical treatment.
It said Elrad Salifu Amoako and one other occupant of the Jaguar vehicle were also rescued and currently on admission at the hospital.
“The parents of the 16-year-old suspect driver, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are currently in custody assisting the investigation,” the statement pointed out.
It further stated that a team from the Police Management Board, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, yesterday visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them and also visited the injured at the hospital.
“The Police would like to assure the public of a thorough investigation into the accident to bring closure to the affected family, as we continue to remember them in our prayers in this difficult time,” the statement added.
