The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afiriyie Akoto has stated that the cost of foodstuffs in the city capitals, especially in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and others are far too high and costly as compared to producer prices from the farmers.
He said, there is no doubt that Ghana has enough food to feed its citizens and for that matter, the country is well-secured in terms of food therefore no one should be afraid of experiencing food scarcity.
Dr. Owusu Afiriyie Akoto explains that food sellers usually attribute the high cost of food to transportation, but he clearly established that that is false since transportation alone can not increase the prices of commodities to about three to four times the producer price (Farmer’s price).
