The Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hajia Lariba Abudu has disclosed that her Ministry, together with National Security and the Ministry of Interior, will soon arrest the syndicates behind child beggars in Ghana.
According to her, the Gender Ministry has picked up some level of intelligence about the modus operandi of such perpetrators, adding that most of the children begging on the streets are foreigners.
She pledged that her Ministry will remove such child beggars from the streets and hand them over to their legitimate families.
Hon. Hajia Lariba Abudu made this statement at the commissioning of the Human Trafficking Secretariat and Trauma-Informed Care Centre for Victims of Human Trafficking, in Accra.
The Secretariat which will attend to the needs of victims of human trafficking was sponsored by the European Union and Expertise France and is operated by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Speaking to the media in an interview, the Chief Executive Officer of Expertise France, Mr. Jeremie Pellet said that his organization will continue to support the fight against Human Trafficking.
