A GHC 3 billion cedi facility among other sources of funding are being arranged for some hardest hit sectors of the economy including the hospitality and tourism industry in the coming weeks.

This was revealed by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, when he interacted with leaders of the hospitality and tourism industry at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The revelation came after hospitality and tourism operators requested for inclusion in the GHC600 million support for SMEs.

The meeting is part of continuing engagements with various stakeholders within the local economy, to examine the impact of the pandemic and also how the country ensures economic rebound after the pandemic.

The President used the occasion to appreciate the assistance of some hoteliers who supported the health service putting their facilities at the disposal of govt for use.

The President assuaged the fears of the hospitality industry with assurance that apart from the GH600 million bailout for the Small and Medium scale enterprises, a GH3 billion cedi facility is being worked out by the local commercial banks in conjunction with the central bank to stimulate the revival of the industry.

The President agreed with the stakeholders that, the disbursement of the GHC600M stimulus package for the SMEs should be accelerated.

He said it was important to note that govt is the hardest hit in the country during this pandemic, stressing that, the global dip in economic activities including oil sales has had its toll on Ghana.

The group also shared their main concern with the president, stating that the challenge for them is the salaries of workers.
