Ghana has overtaken South Africa to become Africa’s leading gold producer with figures from 2018 showing that the country produced 158 metric tons of gold last year to become the largest producer on the continent ahead of Sudan and South Africa.

According to the Board Chair of the Minerals Commision, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo despite the country being hit by the galamsey menace data from Ghana’s Minerals Commission put the 2018 production at 154.33 tons compared with the 132.23 tons for the previous year.

He called on Ghanaians to have hope in the Akufo-Addo government as these success stories on gold production will have a positive impact on mining communities.

He urged Ghanaians within the mining enclaves to expect massive development as the minerals development has tasked the mining companies to join forces with the government to bring development to the mining communities.
