The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) stormed shops in some parts of Accra to inspect electronic tax compliance.
Some of the places visited were New Horizone Coldstore, Glorious Shoppers Delight, Kriskay Kiddies, and Uncle Sas Autoparts.
Others were Sunset Glow Fashion, Opfa Mart Enterprise, Rhema Batteries, Andy Foods, and T6 Enterprise.
The selected shops engaged by the GRA to pilot the electronic VAT initiative, aimed at improving transparency in tax collections.
Addressing the media after the exercise, Assistant Commissioner Joseph Annang, the Accra Area Manager for Enforcement at the Ghana Revenue Authority said, the shops were suspected to be issuing VAT invoices outside the electronic system that was installed by the GRA.
According to him, the owners of these businesses will come to the GRA office to take their statements then the CID will take over from there but their offence is the issuance of non-electronic VAT invoices which means that they are not issuing VAT through the electronic system.
