An aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, yesterday launched a fundraising platform to generate funds to support his campaign in the lead-up to the party’s National Delegates Congress on November 4, as well as the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of the donation platform at Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign office in Accra, a former First Vice Chairman of the NPP, Sammy Crabbe, said the platform is expected to provide members of the party, especially those who believe in the vision of Ken Agyapong, an avenue to donate daily, weekly and monthly towards his campaign for 15 months.

He said “it is not only about the money we are raising, but it is about meeting the people behind him, it is a game that you need to go out there. He has a target of raising GH¢5 million, if we have five hundred thousand people and everybody gives him GH¢10.00, we will achieve that, if the middle class gives us 50,000. We are still there while we work to get others who will also support Ken with GH¢5,000.”

He was optimistic that different wings of the campaign team, research team, operations team as well as the campaign team are all going to ensure Kennedy Agyapong emerges victorious on November 4.

According to him, though the traditional method of generating funds to support political campaigns is still relevant today, the ‘crowdfunding’ approach will serve as an opportunity for individuals, especially grassroots members of the party, to support his campaign in his bid to emerge as the leader of the party on November 4 and subsequently become the flagbearer of the NPP for the 2024 general elections.

Mr. Crabbe, who also underscored the importance of crowdfunding, cited the example of individuals such as the former President of the US, Donald Trump, who used crowdfunding among other strategies to raise funds during his campaign in his bid to become the President of the United States.

He said, unlike other politicians who neglected people who donated towards their campaigns, his outfit would ensure that whoever contributed towards the success of his campaign is rewarded when he assumes office as the president of the country in 2025.

Campaign Chairman of Ken for President 2024, Oppong Bio, who unveiled the platform with the short code *797#, said the platform would go a long way in mobilising resources for the flagbearer aspirant both in Ghana and abroad, as it works towards securing the flagbearer slot of the party.

“We are committed to making Ken Agyapong’s presidential campaign accessible to all Ghanaians. The introduction of the *797# code simplifies the donation process, ensuring that anyone who wants to support our cause can do so effortlessly,” he stressed.

Mr. Oppong also assured the public that a “Ken Agyapong presidency would usher in a new era of innovation and progress for Ghana, while the country also witnesses a series of innovative reforms and  developments under the leadership of Kennedy Agyapong as President of the country.”

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central and businessman emerged second in the NPP’s Special Delegates’ Congress held on August 26 to select five (5) out of 10 presidential candidates to contest for the flagbearership on November 4.
