Former Assin Central MP Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has called for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging party members to put past grievances aside and focus on collective progress. Speaking at an event to welcome new members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Sunday, March 30, Hon. Agyapong acknowledged that political engagement often leads to misunderstandings but emphasized the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation.
The affable entrepreneur, who came second in the 2024 NPP flagbearership contest, extended an apology to anyone who may have felt wronged by his actions or words. His remarks came at a time when the NPP is focused on rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections, with an emphasis on party cohesion and grassroots mobilization.
Hon. Agyapong encouraged the student members of TESCON to play an active role in the party’s campaign efforts, ensuring the NPP’s success in future elections.
The meeting brought together sitting and former MPs, parliamentary candidates, regional and national executives, and other prominent party figures, underlining the importance of unity and forward-looking strategies within the NPP.
Sympathy for Adum Fire Victims
Earlier, Hon. Ken Agyapong demonstrated his commitment to supporting communities in need by donating GHC 950,000 to victims of the Adum Market fire disaster. The donation included 200 streetlights, valued at GHC 850,000, to improve security in the area, and a cash donation of GHC 100,000 to provide immediate relief to traders who lost their goods and stalls in the blaze.
During his visit to the fire site on March 29, Hon. Agyapong expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the affected traders and encouraged them to focus on rebuilding rather than dwelling on their losses. He also advised the victims against politicizing the situation, emphasizing the importance of unity in overcoming the crisis.
This is not the first time Hon. Agyapong has extended such support. A few days prior, he donated GHC 100,000 to victims of the Kantamanto fire on March 28, further highlighting his commitment to aiding those affected by disasters.
While the Adum fire has left many traders struggling to restart their businesses, the contributions of individuals like Hon. Agyapong are helping to rebuild and restore hope in the community.
