The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Mr. Samuel Awuku has vowed to work within the ambit of the law as a public servant, in order to avoid any invitation by the dreaded Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to answer questions on any impropriety that will arise through his leadership.

According to Mr. Awuku, “no politician would be happy to be invited by the EOCO, consideration the heat, public interest and pressure attached to such invitation”.

The Director-General of the NLA is of the firm belief that, without carefully assigning duties and topmost vigilance, a public servant can be trapped in the law.

“Your signature can even take you in or out of jail”, he added.

Mr. Awuku speaking to COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office during a working visit called on the EOCO to educate public servants on new trends related to financial misappropriations and other vital security details, to serve as a guide and also help public servants to work within the ambit of the laws.

On her part, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah stated that it is the responsibility of the EOCO to ensure that, the finances of all public institutions are in safe hands and in accordance with the Financial management regulations, hence a need for the Economic and Organised Crime Office to embark on this courtesy call to the NLA and to ensure that monies meant for the government through the consolidated funds are not tempered with.

According to her, prosecuting individuals for financial misappropriation always cost the nation millions of cedis, hence EOCO is adopting an alternative channel of sensitizing public workers on how to abide by the financial management regulations and prevent being prosecuted.

She explained that EOCO wants to serve as a guide to all public institutions in order to help protect the public purse.

Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah believes that this move by the EOCO will rather help save the nation millions of cedis which would have gone waste through financial misappropriation.
