The General Secretary of the NPP, Mr. John Boadu, on Sunday, June 30, took his tour of EC limited registration centers to the Greater Accra, visiting some selected centers in the capital city, to monitor the exercise during which he interacted with registration officials and representatives of political parties to assess the extent of effectiveness of the registration process.

John Boadu also used the occasion to interact with some of the prospective registrants who expressed delight and enthusiasm at the opportunity accorded them to participate in the ongoing registration exercise and accordingly get to be issued with voter ID cards for purposes of elections and related matters.

His tour of the region, today, saw him visiting the various EC registration centers at the Awayaso West Wuogon, Ayawaso Central, Ablekuma North, Ablekuma West, Ablekuma South and Ayawaso East Constituencies. John Boadu was accompanied by Baba Seidu, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the party.

Speaking to reporters after his tour of these centers, the NPP Chief Scribe, while expressing satisfaction at what he had witnessed, called on the EC, in view of the long queues in some of the centers, to do more to smoothen the process and possibly consider extending the scheduled deadline for the limited registration in order not to disenfranchise any prospective first-time voter.

John Boadu also posited that his party has taken this ongoing limited voter registration exercise with all the seriousness that it deserves and has, among other things, deployed officials from the national to polling station levels, to the various registration centers across the country, to monitor the process. He is expected to take his monitoring tour to the Volta Region from Tuesday, July 2.

The EC, it would be recalled, on May 19, commenced a limited voter registration exercise nationwide, to register Ghanaians who have turned eighteen since the last registration, as well as those who, have never registered, to do so. The exercise forms part of the commission’s preparations for the conduct of the 2019 District Assembly elections and referendum on the elections of MMDCEs. (gossipnextdoor.com)
