As part of effort to help farmers in the country, the government through the ministry of food and agriculture has implemented several flagship programs such as planting for food and Jobs and also rearing for food and Jobs among others.

Under rearing for food and Jobs the aim of the government is to equip the livestock farmers with the needed support and facilities to help reduce the importation of meat and dairy products into the country.

In view of the aforementioned aim of the government, the Sekyere Central district assembly in collaboration with School of Veterinary Medicines, College of Health Science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have organised a workshop for poultry farmers in the Sekyere Central district in the Ashanti region.

In an interview with the district chief executive Hon Kwadwo Banahene Bediako, he mentioned that the assembly has signed a memorandum of understanding with KNUST school of veterinary medicine that they will provide a facility for students to use it as practical centre in the district train and educate the farmers.

He added that, the President agenda of rearing for food and Jobs will help the farmers because most of the farmers are into rearing of sheep, Goat and Cattle and hoped at the centre, the farmers will learn new methods of rearing livestock to help increase their animal stock to reduce importation into the country especially poultry products.

Hon Kwadwo Banahene Bediako used the opportunity to called on the farmers to apply what ever that they have learned so that it will become useful.

Speaking to the district director of Agric for Sekyere Central Mr Charles Adu mentioned that the rearing of the animals in the district is common with many citizens engaged in, and was hopeful the with the workshop, the agric directorate will educate the farmers for them to adopt new methods and practices to improve their yields.

Prof. Benjamin Emikpe, Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicines, at KNUST in an interview implored the participants to ensure they practice what have been taught them in order to benefit them and increase the their output.
