President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that approximately $400 million was allocated to the Agenda 111 hospital project during the previous administration, yet none of the facilities have been fully operational.
He made this disclosure during his inaugural State of the Nation Address in his second term before Parliament on Tuesday.
Agenda 111, an ambitious healthcare initiative aimed at constructing 111 hospitals across the country, was introduced to address the significant gap in Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.
However, President Mahama’s comments suggest that despite substantial financial investments, no hospital has been completed or made operational under this initiative.
“It is important to note that $400 million has already been spent on the Agenda 111 project,” President Mahama said, emphasizing that not a single hospital from this large-scale plan is currently serving the people of Ghana.
He also pointed out that if the funds had been used more efficiently, at least 22 of the proposed hospitals could have been completed and operational by now.
