Pro-democracy group, Mass Action Committee (MAC), has condemned the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, for attempting to disrupt an internal meeting of the Electoral Commission (EC) at a hotel in Accra.

The group accuses the MP of storming a hotel in Accra to disrupt a meeting by the EC under the pretext of enforcing a court order.

The Ningo -Prampram MP had earlier secured an ex-parte injunction against the meeting in Prampram, which is within his constituency.

A statement signed by the Convener of the Mass Action Group, Atik Mohammed, said the action by the MP and his supporters posed a danger to the safety of the EC officials.

According to the statement, it is the view of MAC that, the mob’s presence at the meeting venue and their ensuing actions posed a danger to the safety of the EC officials.

MAC further contends that; these actions could have degenerated into chaos but for the timely arrival of the police and national security officials.

The release added that, to the extent that these actions violate our laws, it demands that the police administration arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

In making this demand, the MAC said they are minded by the fact that Ghana is ruled by law and not men.

To this end, it will be petitioning the Inspector General of Police to cause an investigation to be conducted into the matter and those found culpable dealt with according to law, the statement said.

The Prampram MP has been criticised for his leading role in the impasse, which according to political watchers could be a slippery road ahead of the political season.
