The Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery has today said, all members of Parliament are going to be provided with personal bodyguards.

The comments of the Minister came up in Parliament today Tuesday 13 October, 2020 in response of the an urgent invitation by the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye for briefing on measures being put in place to protect members of Parliament.

Mr Ambrose in a press briefing with the Parliamentary Pres corps explained that, security for Parliamentarians has always been the principle.

The interior minister added that, the protection of Members of Parliament is part of the general national security architecture which is being taken care of by a number of strategies put in place by the general security system of the country.

He said, two hundred more bodyguards are going to be added to the existing ones that has already been provided to MPs who are Ministers and Deputy Ministers including leadership of Parliament which include, the Speaker, his two Deputies, majority and Minority leaders and others.

The Interior minister further explain that, the bodyguards for MPs are going to work with them only during the day time until they get to their residence and that, provisions are still on going to provide members of Parliament with day and night security at their various residence.
