Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has given assurances that the various multipurpose Youth Resource Centres currently under construction in various districts around the country will soon be completed.

Sod was cut for the ten projects projects in 2018 and according to the Ministry’s timeline were expected to be completed by midyear 2019.

According to the Sports Minister, minor impediments have held back the projects but gave a definite timeline for their completion.

“RIGHT NOW THE TEN MULTIPURPOSE CENTRES ARE AT VARIOUS STAGES OF COMPLETION.

“SOME OF THEM ARE AT A NINETY FIVE PERCENT COMPLETION STAGE.

“WE WERE VERY COMMITTED TO THE PROJECTS BUT YOU KNOW WHEN YOU GIVE PROJECTS TO CONTRACTORS SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS THROUGH CONSULTANTS.

“THE LAST TIME I HELD MEETINGS WITH THEM WE LET THEM KNOW THAT THE PROJECTS HAVE UNDULY DELAYED.

“WE HAVE DIRECTED ALL THE CONTRACTORS TO GO AND FINISH THEIR PROJECTS AND WE HAVE GIVEN THEM TWO MONTHS.” HE REVEALED ON CITI TV’S FACE TO FACE.

When completed, the centres will have a FIFA standard pitch, an athletics track, lawn tennis, basketball, handball and volleyball courts as well as a gymnasium.
