General Secretary for the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Kokro Amankwah, has laud Akufo Addo led administration for instituting measures to allow the people to elect their own Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
He said if MMDCEs are elected it will give them security of tenure, reduce attack on them and more importantly to be accountable to the people.
He said election of MMDCEs will foster development and harness co-existence among them and the traditional authorities in the country.
Mr Kokro Amankwah said MMDCEs who does not bring development to their people may loose re-election.
He argue that MPs are forced to do development even though it is not their core mandate as enshrined in the constitution and it so because they are elected by the people.
He spoke exclusively to Nana Ampofo Ayeh, Oman FM Parliamentary Correspondent.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has hinted that there will be a referendum in December this year 2019, towards the elections of MMDCEs
The General Secretary of NALAG, Kokro Amankwah called on Ghanaians to vote Yes for the upcoming referendum which is scheduled to be part of this years election of Assembly elections.
